10 Ways To Create Change In Your Home
How are you my friends? So here are all of my teens ranging in age from 12 to 25 and their boyfriends, girlfriend and fiance. I so loved having them all here to celebrate my Birthday . And yes, I gave them a heads up that I want a picture and a game! I believe they even enjoyed the game of charades we played. There was some pretty impressive acting and guessing ! And thanks to our friend and guest Sam,we have these pictures and you have this e mail delivered through mail chimp, which he set up for me! Thank you Sam.
This is Sam. A good friend to my whole family. I mean who gets up at 6 am to say good bye to the youngest two heading out for the school bus? He has such a good connection to teens and young adults. It's remarkable. Which brings me to new ways we can connect to our teens as parents. These 10 tips stem from Marc Greggston, who lives with 60 teens at Heartlight ministries in Texas. He has an awesome podcast called "Parenting Today's Teens ." Do some of these changes so they don't end up there!
Find time to spend with your teen.
Start asking questions and stop being a know it all
Stop talking-start listening
Commit to saying 'I love you' more
Give them more freedom
Give them more responsibility
See conflict as a precursor to change
Determine a new way to encourage them
Convey this truth:
"There is nothing you can do to make me love you more, and there's nothing you can do to make me love you less."
Which one comes easy to you? Which one do you struggle with the most? As with anything new, it won't be easy to implement , but oh so worth it. Try out one and focus on that one for a week. See how it goes. Give yourself credit when you implement it well, and DO NOT beat yourself up when it didn't quite work out so well. Practice , practice. You will feel better in your own skin, and because of that, your teens will feel better about themselves. Its a win win. Try it out !
You are loved. Deeply loved. Loved beyond measure.
Until next time, Isabelle
