Tuesday Thoughts and Being in Awe

Hi Friends, Were you challenged to think about freedom from a different perspective? Today, I want to encourage you to take a trip back in time. Just in case you are a mom, an aunt, or have at any given time, spent time with a little child; you will remember the following: Let's say you took a walk with that child. You held her hand and you took small steps. The day was lovely and the park or neighborhood had a walking path, a pond and a playground. Your "goal" was to walk straight to the playground but the child wasn't motivated by your goal. She lived in the moment and that moment only. She pulled your hand as she noticed a pebble at the side of the path and wanted to pick it up. A second later, she pointed to a bush where she heard a rustling sound. There was a bird startled by your approach and flew off. You passed a tree and the child stopped dead in her tracks because she wanted to witness the playful chase of two squirrels up a tree. A few steps down the path, she let go of your hand as she bent down to admire a dandelion. You helped her pick it and blew the little seed umbrellas into the wind… I could keep writing. But you remember. I like to think that I was the mom who stopped and let my children explore and be in awe of their little discoveries. Sometimes I was the one stopping them and pointing out what I discovered. Look at the picture above. This is not from Google or Unsplash where I often get featured pictures. It is not from a flower exhibit or public garden. This is in my neighbor’s yard. Aren't they gorgeous? I stooped to look, be in awe and capture that beauty to share with you. When is the last time you were in awe? Just in case you tell me you don't have time to stop and smell the flowers, here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Your breath (you woke up breathing right?)

  • Your hands (they are functioning?)

  • Feel your heart beating

  • Close your eyes then open them and take notice of what you can see

  • The smell of coffee (you were able to smell this morning?)

  • Your skin (it is there to protect you)

  • Your pet (are you in awe of how loyal and playful they are?)

  • Your child or grandchild (let them help you be in the moment)

  • The tree outside your window (it gives shade, a home to many animals, converts CO2 into oxygen)

  • The photograph on your desk (are you in awe of that person, that friendship?)

  • The fact that your car started this morning

  • You have water to drink

Let this just be a prompt to get you started on ideas. What could you be in awe of right now? Your body is amazing. So many inventions we take for granted are amazing. Flushing toilet? Amazing! A cell phone? A laptop? A boat? A conversation with a friend?

I want you to think of five things right now that you could be in awe of.

The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to sharpen. W.B. Yeats

Can you see how this sharpened sense of wonder can make your day better? Now go and be in awe. I can't wait to hear from you and what you found to be in awe with. Let's inspire each other!
