Tuesday Thoughts And Have You Noticed?

Hi Friends,

I trust you enjoyed last week's reflection of the old year. It's a new year! And you successfully made it through 2024. Congratulations. I bet you had many of the moments described below spread throughout the year. Have you paused to let in the truth about them? I was inspired by a social media post that pointed out the three truths below.

Growth Through Discomfort: Becoming Stronger, Smarter, and Braver

Stepping out of your comfort zone isn’t easy. It often feels uncomfortable, awkward, or even downright scary. But it’s in these moments of discomfort that real growth happens. Today, I want to focus on three key areas of growth that often feel challenging at first but have the power to transform your life: building strength, expanding your knowledge, and overcoming fears.

1. Building Strength: "Working out might make you feel weak, but it’s actually making you stronger."

The first day at the gym or a new exercise class can feel humbling. Your muscles might ache, and you might doubt your abilities. But every rep, every step, and every stretch is making you stronger. Physical exercise is also a metaphor for life—sometimes we have to face temporary struggles to achieve lasting strength. And maybe it's not the gym for you (it isn't for me). Maybe you want to start doing weights at home, or yoga, or walk while listening to a podcast. Maybe scuba diving or dancing?

Action Step: Start small. Choose one new physical activity to incorporate into your week—a daily walk, a short yoga session, or trying a new fitness class. Commit to doing it consistently for the next month.

Affirmation: "With every challenge I embrace, I grow stronger in body, mind, and spirit."

2. Expanding Knowledge: "Learning new things might make you feel dumb, but it’s actually making you smarter."

Learning something new, especially later in life, can feel intimidating. Whether it’s picking up a new hobby, diving into a course, or tackling a complex book, it’s normal to feel out of your depth at first. But remember, every time you learn, your mind expands and adapts in amazing ways. Maybe you would like to learn how to take better pictures. maybe you want to learn the Japanese art of flower arranging called Ikebana (as I  am learning right now, see the picture above). Maybe you want to learn to write in your journal (that's a skill). Or maybe you're interested in a new cooking skill. What is it for you?

Action Step: Choose a skill or topic you’ve always wanted to learn. Sign up for a class, watch a tutorial, or read a book on the subject. Dedicate 15 minutes a day to building this new knowledge.

Affirmation: "I am capable of learning, growing, and discovering new possibilities."

3. Overcoming Fear: "Facing fears might make you feel terrified, but it’s actually making you braver."

Fear has a way of keeping us stuck. The more we avoid it, the stronger it grows. But each time you face what frightens you, you weaken its hold and strengthen your courage. Bravery isn’t about being fearless; it’s about taking action in the face of fear.

Action Step: Identify one fear that’s been holding you back. Take a small step toward facing it—whether it’s speaking up in a meeting, making that phone call, or signing up for that event you’ve been avoiding. Celebrate the progress you make, no matter how small.

Affirmation: "I am courageous and capable of rising above my fears."

Moving Forward: Living Beyond Your Emotions

Sometimes the hardest part of stepping into something new is the emotional weight we carry. Sadness, anxiety, or doubt can feel paralyzing. But living isn’t about waiting for these emotions to disappear—it’s about taking steps forward despite them.

Takeaway Message:

Get out and live. Do it sad, do it anxious, do it scared. Don’t let your emotions be the reason you hold back. Sometimes, it’s through new experiences that we find healing, growth, and joy.

Affirmation: "I choose to live fully and embrace the possibilities of growth and healing, no matter how I feel today."

When you push past the discomfort and keep moving forward, you’re not just surviving—you’re thriving. Remember, every step, no matter how small, is a victory worth celebrating.

And let me know when you implemented even one idea from this newsletter. I want to celebrate with you.
