Hi Friends,
Did you do the childhood exercise from last week? I heard that some of you remembered some long forgotten childhood memories.
If you are in Florida, then it was back to school for your kids last week. In other states you have a lot of summer still left ahead of you. It doesn't matter, this topic is for all ages and all different phases in life.
Zig Ziglar used to talk about this, and it is one of the ways he transformed himself and rose rapidly in the ranks of his company. Later on he became a well known and liked motivational speaker.
What was it that brought him there? Something he lovingly referred to as "Automobile university".
The late motivational speaker and author, Zig Ziglar, coined the phrase “Automobile University” to use the time spent behind the wheel driving to expand one’s education. He suggested that many drivers can increase their knowledge on a variety of subjects during their drive time.
In his time that was good old cassette tapes. Nowadays you have an immense library of topics to choose from. And many of them are free. I believe his son has a podcast in his memory where he talks about snippets of his dad's talks or writings.
You can use the time in your car, the time that you need to drive to work, or shopping or wherever, a long road trip, to broaden your knowledge.
Maybe you are really interested in self development, well, I am, and want to learn more by listening to a wide array of podcasts.
I also love audible and listen to books while driving, cooking, walking, gardening, folding laundry.... you get the idea. Any task that you can do without too much thinking.
Sometimes the voice from an audiobook makes me tired while driving and I shut it off and switch to music!
Basically, you have more information at your fingertips then any generation ever before us.
So what are you interested in?
The other day I consciously deleted quite a few of my podcasts and signed up for some very different topics. I needed something different. I signed up for one on gardening, one on pop culture which I know nothing about and one on hiking.
On one of my 2 hour drives recently, a podcast popped up called "hallo nature". I listened fascinated for the whole time as the young host talked about visiting 8 national parks. She had sound bites of the park ranchers and the tour guides and I learned a lot. It makes me want to visit the national parks even more!
So what topic are you interested in? And guess what, if you change your mind, it's not like you spent hundreds on cassette tapes and you don't like the content. These podcasts are free. Many audio books you can also get for free. So you really have no excuse not to learn something new or not to get better at a skill you already have.
It's good to learn and expand your worldview. Your brain cells need something new to grow new synapses. Did you know that? That's why a child's brain grows so fast in their early years. Everything is new and everything is a challenge for them.
I remember my uncle, back in Germany, always did crossword puzzles. He kept his mind sharp.
A new language does the same. Now I speak 2 languages fluently, and I would love to also speak French. So I signed up for duo lingo.
What do you want to learn? Just think of all the new topics you will have now for conversation starters :)
Time. It's a precious entity. Listen to Zig Ziglar and use it wisely. Stay mentally young by learning new things. Challenge yourself. Get out of your comfort zone while driving in your comfy car, on a well known route to do a well known job. Or while in your comfy house doing mundane things. Yes, you don't need to climb Mount Everest to get out of your comfort zone. Even though challenging your body physically is a very good goal also! Now, go have fun with this and let me know what you decided to learn. Zig would be proud of you! And so am I.
PS: Message me for a free consult to start moving toward a more confident you.
You are loved. Deeply loved.
Loved beyond measure.
Until next time, Isabelle
