Tuesday Thoughts And a New Perspective

Hi Friends,

When You See Life Through Older Eyes
There are moments in life that don’t necessarily change us, but they change the way we see everything we’ve already lived.
When we are young, we are usually so busy living our lives that we don’t have much perspective. We become mothers, raise our children, make mistakes, figure things out as we go, and somehow keep moving forward. We don’t always stop to recognize just how much we are carrying or how much we are learning along the way.
But then, one day, you find yourself watching your own child step into a new chapter of life, and something shifts. You see things through different eyes. You remember what it felt like to be young and uncertain, to hold a newborn and wonder if you were doing any of it right. But now, with years behind you, you can see the bigger picture, the courage, the love, the exhaustion, the excitement, and the incredible transformation that is taking place.
And perhaps one of the most beautiful things is seeing someone you love surrounded by the kind of support every new mother deserves. Parents, sisters, in-laws, family and friends all showing up, helping, encouraging, bringing food, offering advice, holding the baby, or simply being there. I didn’t have that kind of village when I became a mother, and I remember what it felt like to feel very much on my own. But seeing it now doesn't make me sad. Instead, it makes me grateful that someone I love gets to experience this kind of support. Sometimes healing can look like watching someone else receive what you once wished you had, and being genuinely happy for them.
Getting older also gives us the gift of seeing our own parents differently. We begin to understand things we couldn't possibly have understood when we were younger. We see our own children differently, too. We realize that they are not simply extensions of us, but people creating lives and stories of their own.
Maybe that is one of the quiet gifts of getting older: perspective. We don't just accumulate years; we accumulate understanding. We can look back at the woman we once were with a little more compassion. We can appreciate what she carried, even when she didn't know how strong she was.
And we can look forward with a little more trust.
Life keeps unfolding. Our roles change. Our children grow up. New generations arrive. And somehow, through all of it, we get the beautiful opportunity to watch life from a completely different place than we once did.I also find myself wishing I had more pictures from those early days of motherhood. Back then, I was simply trying to get through the days, and I didn’t have the handy iphone. Now I realize how precious those memories have become.
And there is something wonderful about being in the supportive role now. I get to take the pictures, bring the food, hold the baby, encourage the new mom, and simply be present. I don’t have to figure everything out anymore. I get to witness it, appreciate it, and be there for her, and there is a beautiful kind of freedom in that.
Older eyes may see things differently. But sometimes, they also see the beauty more clearly.
