Hi Friends,
Did you try the exercise of the 100 list? I received some good feedback and I'm so glad it inspired you!
Today, as we are in the 3rd week of January, there is a familiar buzz in the air—hopeful resolutions, plans to start fresh, and aspirations to make this the year where it all falls into place. For women in midlife, this season offers a unique opportunity to reflect, reset, and reignite momentum for the next chapter of your life.
Embracing Your Momentum
Momentum isn’t just for those beginning their journey; it’s equally vital for those of us navigating midlife, where experience, insight, and wisdom converge. It’s about recognizing the steady progress you’ve already made and letting that energy propel you forward.
So often, women in midlife face the challenge of balancing long-standing commitments with dreams they’ve quietly put aside. The beauty of momentum is that it builds upon itself. A single step—signing up for that class, writing the first page of that novel, or clearing space in your schedule for self-care—can lead to the next step, and then the next. You don’t need to overhaul your life all at once; you need only to begin.
Rethinking Resolutions
Rather than making resolutions that feel like obligations, such as losing weight or exercising more, consider setting intentions that truly align with your values and passions. Focus on growth rather than perfection, aiming to improve and celebrate progress instead of chasing flawlessness. Small, sustainable changes can make a big difference, whether it’s drinking more water, walking for 10 minutes daily, or reconnecting with an old friend. Pursue goals that spark joy and curiosity, like picking up painting again, volunteering for a cause close to your heart, or learning something completely new.
Remember that resolutions don’t need to be rigid; life is dynamic, and it’s perfectly okay to adjust and pivot as opportunities arise. Be open to unexpected journeys. Allow yourself downtime when you need it—momentum is about intentional progress, not constant motion, and rest can help you move forward with renewed clarity.
Finally, give yourself permission to reassess and completely reinvent your goals if they no longer feel meaningful. Letting go of what doesn’t serve you makes space for new possibilities that align with your true path.
Here are a few ways to keep moving forward throughout the year:
Celebrate Wins (big and small): Whether you completed a project, had an honest conversation, or simply made it through a tough day, acknowledge your efforts.
Surround Yourself with Encouragement: Share your intentions with a trusted friend, join a group with similar interests, or follow online communities that inspire you. I have a few buddies where we hold each other accountable with our new intentions. It really helps.
Reflect and Reassess: Periodically check in with yourself. What’s working? What feels stuck? Adjust as needed to keep aligned with what truly matters.
Practice Gratitude: Momentum thrives in an atmosphere of gratitude. Take time each day to reflect on the progress you’ve made and the abundance in your life.
A Year to Thrive
The new year isn’t about reinventing yourself; it’s about reconnecting with who you are and who you want to become. For women in midlife, the power of momentum lies in your ability to weave your past, present, and future together with intention and grace.
Let this year be the one where you take that next courageous step forward. Momentum isn’t something you’re searching for—it’s already within you, waiting for your cue to take action. Harness it, nurture it, and watch it carry you into a new year filled with possibility.
This week's affirmation:
Every step is part of my path to more joy, growth and possibility.
